In the pharmacies around the brothels in Karaköy, Istanbul, there used to be a poster advertising Viagra. It showed a pretty, perky girl sitting up in bed next to an exhausted-looking gentleman. She says, “Hadi! Bi’ daha!” (“Come on! Once more!”)

In March, 2014, there was an election. The biggest party, Akparti, had a massive poster campaign. In the electorates in which Akparti’s candidate was the incumbent, huge billboards went up saying, “Bi’ Daha [insert name of electorate]”. When officials of Akparti learned of the Viagra campaign, the potential associations of sharing the advertising slogan, Bi’ Daha, occurred to them. As in, ‘Why not let us fuck you again?’ The pharmacies got a visit from a party official and the next day, the Viagra posters disappeared.
